The Chronicles of Ladakh - Set 9 - Back to Leh Again

Previous: Pangong Tso
Day 9, 16th September, 2012
Spangmik > Lukung > Tangtse > Durbuk > Sakti > Chang La > Karu > Leh (171 KM)
We started from Pangong after breakfast around 9 in the morning. The Tso was shining under the glittering sun.

Before we reached even Tangtse, Rigzin parked the car at one place which looked to be a valley with patches of green and a small stream of water was running by the valley. Rigzin said that he was going to feed the Marmots now. We were obviously curious.
He took a pack of biscuits and approached the valley and then threw a couple of biscuits in the direction of the holes, in which the Marmots were supposed to live.
Within a minute the place was crowded by the fluffy little furry creatures and Rigzin delightfully fed them. The Marmots even stood on its hind legs and snatched the biscuits from his hands. The scene really was the highlight of this journey and made our day as we did not see the Marmots from so close before. This even lessened the pain of leaving Pangong Tso!

The rest of the journey was uneventful and through the familiar roads through Tangtse, Durbuk and then the Mighty Chang La which we crossed easily.

We had our lunch at Karu and then it was a straightforward journey to Leh, where we found ourselves in the cosiness of a hotel by 1600 hrs.
